In a world with so many large corporations, it is becoming increasingly popular to shop local and support businesses in your own community. Every year, Honolulu hosts a Fashion Week Marketplace where a mix of established names as well as new designers gather to showcase their apparel, jewelry, home goods and accessories. We’ve picked three designers from last year’s show that we feel we will all be seeing more of soon and for you to keep an eye on.

Spark by Sanna Myers

While this designer is not Hawaiian-born, she has certainly embraced the Hawaiian style and aesthetic in her collections, shifting from a layered look to a much more minimal style, incorporating crisp lines, soft florals, and a dreamy understated color palette. After studying fashion in Sweden, Myers moved to Hawaii almost six years ago and started Spark, a brand dedicated to providing looks that both looked and felt good with minimal effort, especially in the balmy Hawaiian heat. Her pieces mix Swedish design with Hawaiian easy beach living, making enjoying the islands and life on them that much easier. Her clothes are available online as well as in boutiques on Maui, Oahu, and the Big Island.

Adhira by Suki Gottfried

Inspired by her passion for travelling and seeing the world, as well as the enchantment of tropical life, Suki Gottfried created Adhira, a clothing brand that “represents strong, independent and fearless women.” After living in India for some time during her youth, Suki was determined to create handmade clothing that was comfortable, of the highest quality, and that women could feel confident in. In line with the Hawaiian beach lifestyle, Adhira is a collection of simple, breezy cuts in bold, beautiful prints in colors with delicate feminine details. Yireh by Emily Valdez

Meaning “will provide”, Yireh is a brand inspired by a love for travel and an appreciation for the ocean, and established by Emily Valdez, who has spent many years traveling around the world, meeting artisans and investing in their crafts. In exchange for their jewelry, clothing, and other creations, Emily provides tuition payments and support to families in Indonesia provided by the sales she makes of their products back in Oahu. An inspirational brand and project, Yireh is helping communities near and far gain a greater appreciation for creativity and encourage people to keep doing what they love.
